Barton Hills - Zilker - Barton Heights
Tucked up in the hills, in between MoPac and Lamar, just south of Barton Springs Road, is the beautiful refined neighborhood of Barton Hills. You would hardly notice it was there since it is bordered by parks and nature preserves. It is conveniently located near down town Austin, and just steps from well known restaurants and coffee shops such as Chuy’s, Shady Grove, Green Mesquite BBQ, Austin Java, and Flipnotics.
Barton Hills Homes
Barton Hills, unlike many of the other central Austin neighborhoods such as Pemberton Heights and Hyde Park, is a relatively younger neighborhood. Although the neighborhood prides itself on the history of the area, calling itself “one of the oldest neighborhoods in Cental Texas” due to the discovery of dinosaur footprints 99 millon years old found in Zilker Park, and artifacts indicating the presence of Native American camps near Barton Springs some 11,000 years ago. However, the neighborhood was not subdivided and platted until 1956. Many of the early homes built in this neighborhood were designed and built by famous local architect A.D. Stenger in the late 1940’s and 50’s. His homes can still be found in the neighborhood today and are actually highly sought after.
