Central - Downtown Austin
Since 1995, the City of Austin has focused on the redevelopment of its core Downtown area to improve transportation and affordable living and to create a more livable, diverse, and sustainable Downtown. Central Austin covers a very wide area, but “Downtown Austin” originally referred to the area from The University of Texas to Town Lake, and from Lamar Blvd., to I-35. The City of Austin has since defined the Downtown Redevelopment program to include sections of Austin just east of I-35 and west of Lamar, and a little further south of Town Lake. Along with the redevelopment priorities for Downtown, the City of Austin also planned to reshape Downtown into unique “districts.” Each district would have its own name to reflect the culture which is most prominent to that area. Some of the new districts are: Congress Avenue District, Convention Center District, E. Sixth St./Entertainment District, Market District, Red River District, Seaholm District, Second Street District, SoCo District, SoLa District, Southbank District, Uptown/Arts District, Warehouse District, Waterfront District, Butler Park/Bouldin, West End, and Zilker. There are many new condominiums popping up throughout these districts. Both low-rise and high-rise, mixed-use and residential buildings have become very popular in the City of Austin’s redevelopment plan.
These new districts are as eclectic and diverse as the whole City of Austin. Finding a new condo or an older home in Downtown Austin is as easy as deciding which favorite restaurant or bakery you want to live closest to. If it’s a large home with a yard, you might want to look in Clarksville, Bouldin, or Zilker neighborhoods. If it’s a brad new condo on the top floor of a high rise building, you will want to check out the The Monarch, The Shore, The Spring, or The 360. There are so many more condos available in many different buildings in and around Downtown Austin. Please call or email me for an up to date list of new condos and availability.
