Clarksville
When talking about Clarksville, it’s hard for me to not be biased. It has been my home neighborhood for many years. Clarksville is conveniently located between Lamar and MoPac, and W. 5th St. and Enfield. It is part of the Old West Austin Neighborhood, though many believe the Old West Austin Neighborhood to only include Clarksville. Residents of Clarksville enjoy both a taste of urban living, but in a quiet, historic neighborhood. It is the best of both worlds! As a resident here, I am able to walk to and enjoy all the urban downtown areas, businesses, night life and restaurants. I can shop at Whole Foods, and the many boutiques which line W. 6th and Lamar. I can stop in at Café Medici or Swettish Hill Bakery for coffee, and catch a bite to eat at Z Tejas, Jeffrey’s or Zocolo. Then I can also come home and work in my garden and have a relaxing evening on my front porch. Amazingly, I have a view of the State Capital dome from my front yard, and can see the Zilker Christmas tree from my back yard. Every New Year’s and 4th of July, I have a reserved seat in my own yard to view the City of Austin’s fire works shows. Not every home in Clarksville has the same views, but it gives you a feel for the proximity of this small and quaint, but very vibrant neighborhood.
